Skiwise is run by Skiwise LLC. This policy covers the Skiwise mobile app and skiwise.app. It says what we collect, why, and how to get rid of it. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not run ads.
WHAT WE COLLECT
Your account. When you sign up we store your email address and the display name you pick, plus a profile photo if you add one. Signing in with Apple or Google passes us the same basics from that account.
What you post. Trail conditions reports, the grades and comments in them, any photos you attach, and which trails you follow.
Location, if you allow it. The app asks for your location so it can suggest the trail you are standing at when you post a report, and so it can record your route if you use ski tracking. It reads your location only while you are using the app, never in the background, and the app works without it — the permission prompt is a real question, and declining it costs you the nearest-trail shortcut and route recording, nothing else.
Your device. If you turn on notifications we store a push token so we can tell you when a trail you follow is groomed. We also generate a random device identifier to count sessions.
How the app gets used. Which screens you open and which features you use, plus crash and error reports when something breaks. This is how we find out what is broken and what nobody can find.
WHAT IS PUBLIC
Skiwise is a place skiers tell each other about trail conditions, so some of it is public on purpose:

Your display name and profile photo appear on the reports you post.
•
Your reports, grades, comments and photos are visible to anyone using Skiwise, including people who are not signed in, and on skiwise.app.
Your email address and your location are never shown to other users.
WHO ELSE TOUCHES IT
We use other companies to run Skiwise. They only handle your data to provide their service to us, and they are not allowed to use it for their own purposes:

Google Firebase — sign-in and accounts.
•
Railway and Vercel — hosting the API and the website.
•
Cloudflare R2 — storing the photos you upload.
•
Expo — delivering push notifications.
•
Amplitude, PostHog and Microsoft Clarity — usage analytics.
•
Better Stack — crash and error logs.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect Skiwise and its users from abuse.
DELETING YOUR DATA
You can delete your account from Settings inside the app. That erases your email address, name, profile photo and description, removes your push tokens, and deletes your sign-in so there is no way back into the account. If you would rather ask us to do it, or you no longer have the app installed, email support@skiwise.app.
The reports and photos you posted stay on the trails they describe, so a trail's conditions history doesn't develop holes — they are re-attributed to an anonymous "Deleted user" and are no longer connected to you. Ask us at support@skiwise.app if you want them taken down instead. Full details are on the skiwise.app/delete-account page.
SECURITY AND RETENTION
Everything travels over encrypted connections. We keep your account data for as long as your account exists, and analytics and error logs for a limited period after that.
CHILDREN
Skiwise is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
CHANGES
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change is a significant one.
